Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity

The Fleet Category Manager – Light Vehicles (LV) will manage the specification selection, design, acquisition, and delivery of Fleet capital expenditure (capex) requests. In this role, you will research manufacturers, obtain quotes and carry out critical risk assessments on all capex requests. Provide analytical and financial recommendation for business decisions in this high pace role.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Develop Financial models & reporting.
  • Planning the Annual fleet replacements and producing Fleet selection guides detailing standard build selections and pricing.
  • Build strong supplier relationships and ensure fit out providers and supply chain partners are performing to ensure optimal value for Downer.
  • Lead collaboration meetings with Fleet managers and operational business leaders
  • Oversee the supply of Fleet assets, ensuring compliance with standards, and organise user and supplier training


A key aspect of this role will be driving innovation and technology solutions to reduce the administrative burden of capital investment, while focusing on the continuous improvement of processes and procedures for capital investment and business partner management. The ability to travel and stay away from your homebase is required.

We are seeking a customer-centric individual with strong business acumen; you will be someone who can effectively understand stakeholder needs while driving business success. The ideal candidate will have an eye for detail, strong leadership, communication and negotiation skills with a focus on safety, innovation, and continuous improvement. Additionally, you will have:

  • Experience in supply chain management.
  • Experience managing a large national supplier network
  • Strong understanding of lease terms and arrangements
  • Strong Business acumen and analytical financial skills.
  • An exceptional focus on Health & Safety and Zero Harm practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; JDE knowledge is an advantage
  • Proven track record in developing successful relationships with customers and major suppliers.
  • Clear understanding of positive leadership behaviours and strong and successful collaborative relationships with peers in a corporate environment.
