PwC Legal in Ōtautahi / Christchurch is seeking a talented and experienced Corporate / Commercial Lawyer to join our dynamic team. This is a unique opportunity to apply your legal expertise in an innovative environment beyond the traditional law firm setting. Engage in high-caliber advisory work both locally and internationally and collaborate closely with all facets of our Financial Advisory Services and Deals practices. This position offers a rare insight into diverse client issues and the chance to work alongside experts from various service lines, enriching your professional experience across multiple fields.
Within this team, your day to day responsibilities could include:
- Advising Clients: Deliver comprehensive legal advice to corporate clients on a range of commercial matters, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and corporate governance.
- Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial contracts and agreements, ensuring compliance with legal standards and client objectives.
- Regulatory Compliance: Guide clients through regulatory frameworks, ensuring adherence to relevant laws and regulations, and advising on effective risk management strategies.
- Business Development: Collaborate with PwC's multidisciplinary teams to identify business opportunities, nurture client relationships, and contribute to the growth of our corporate legal services.
- Training and Mentorship: Mentor junior lawyers and legal staff, fostering professional development and maintaining high standards within the team.
PwC Legal delivers its services to external clients, often working alongside PwC New Zealand’s other service lines. Although we work differently to traditional law firms, this is not an in-house role.
Ngā pūkenga kei a koe / Skills and experience
- Experience: 5+ years PQE in corporate/commercial law, ideally in NZ or a similar jurisdiction.
- Expertise: Strong background in corporate governance, M&A, commercial contracts, and regulatory matters. Experience in taking the lead on matters and working directly with clients and supervising more junior team members.
- Education: LLB or LLB (Honours)
- Professional Requirements: Completed Professional Legal Studies Course, admission to the NZ High Court, and a current practising certificate from the NZLS.
- Attributes: Strong commercial acumen, client-focused, driven, and committed to delivering high-quality service.
