Te wero – The Challenge

We have an amazing opportunity for a fulltime, engagement-focused Communications & Engagement Advisor to join our Communications & Engagement Team.

Your focus will be on supporting our Senior Communications and Engagement Advisor to plan and run engagement and consultation activities that excite our communities and increase public participation in the work of the council.

You will also support the wider Communications and Engagement Team to produce general communications outputs, such as news stories, social media posts, videos and website content.

Your knowledge of social media will enable the Communications and Engagement Team to develop its online reach on social media platforms enabling the council to more effectively engage with youth and other hard-to-reach audiences.

Ideally, your knowledge of Te Reo Māori and Te Ao Māori will help the Communications & Engagement Team improve the depth of its outputs and boost engagement with Māori communities in the Far North across all platforms.

I ā koe - About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least two years’ experience of working in a communications or content production role creating written content, managing social media and producing communication/marketing materials
  • A tertiary qualification in communications, journalism or marketing or proof of significant experience working in these fields
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • An intermediate understanding of Te Reo Māori and tikanga with a willingness to gain further understanding of Te Ao Māori
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences
  • The ability to write concise and accurate copy for diverse channels and audiences
  • The ability to produce lively, informative social media content that resonates with hard-to-reach audiences
