He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role:
As our Design and Analysis Lead, you’ll play a pivotal role in transforming KiwiRail’s Business Analysis practice, shifting from fragmented approaches to a cohesive, service design-driven model. Your leadership will ensure KiwiRail adopts innovative, human-centric design principles that enhance customer experience, streamline operations, and drive business value.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and implement strategic design and analysis frameworks that align with KiwiRail’s objectives
  • Lead service design initiatives, creating service blueprints and customer journey maps to optimise experiences
  • Delivering hands-on service design and analysis work, setting the standard for best practice
  • Conduct in-depth system analysis, ensuring technology, data, and business processes align with our strategic goals
  • Translate technical insights into compelling business cases and executive presentations
  • Foster collaboration across IT, business units, and transformation teams to enhance operational efficiency
  • Mentor a team of business analysts and service designers, building a culture of learning and innovation


This is a fixed-term position for two years, offering the opportunity to lead a high-impact initiative that will leave a lasting legacy at KiwiRail

You’re a strategic thinker with a passion for service design and business analysis.You’ll will bring:

Essential:

  • 10+ years of experience in service design or business analysis leadership, driving transformation projects
  • Strong team leadership skills, with experience mentoring and growing capability in business analysis
  • Proven ability to develop and implement customer journey maps, service blueprints, and design thinking frameworks
  • Experience translating technical insights into compelling business cases and stakeholder communications
  • Expertise in business modelling, stakeholder management, and process improvement
  • A collaborative mindset, with a track record of working across teams to drive meaningful change


Desirable:

  • Professional certification in Service Design or Business Analysis
  • Experience with SFIA 8 skills framework
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Design, Information Systems, or a related field
