Do you want to prevent crime and harm, and contribute to making New Zealand (NZ) the safest country? As an intelligence professional in the NZ Police this will be your focus every day.
Tāmaki Makaurau Intelligence (TM Intel) provides intelligence support to Waitematā, Auckland City and Counties Manukau Districts and Auckland Deployment with intelligence staff working in areas, district and Piki Ki Te Ao.
TM Intel operates in a dynamic environment and supports tactical and operational Police decision-making, to prevent crime and harm at the District and Tāmaki Makaurau level, as well as strategic outputs for senior managers. Outputs provide insight into the nature of crime and harm by identifying trends, and forecasting future threats, risks, and opportunities.
You will be required to lead a team of leaders who can engage proactively with a range of workgroups and partner agencies and be passionate about supporting our people to deliver high quality, reliable, and timely Intelligence
Key Accountabilities:
- Lead a team of intelligence supervisors through providing day to day leadership and direction for the Intelligence team.
- Support organisational decision making by ensuring the delivery of actionable intelligence.
- Manage competing demands and implement strategies to maximise effectiveness and mitigate service delivery risk.
- Work collaboratively across TM Intel with other leaders in support of Our Business and the Commissioner’s priorities.
- Engage positively with internal and external stakeholders, agencies, and community groups.
- Foster a positive team culture and provide positive leadership.

Analytical Services Group
Analytical Services Group (ASG) covers a wide range of intelligence topics and delivers quality intelligence at a tactical, operational and strategic level. Outputs support tasking and coordination, deployment of resources, aid the understanding of the criminal environment and crime problems, facilitate evidence-based action and prevention and support planned and unplanned events and operations. This position has three team supervisors and two lead analysts as direct reports. You will need to be proficient in intelligence analysis tools and methodologies.
Area Services
Area Services has nine Area Supervisors who are based within the ten areas as direct reports. These teams comprise intelligence support as well as collection capability, providing daily intelligence support to Area Leaderships Teams to inform decision making, deployment, identification of opportunities for targeting and elevating potential risk. You will need good communication skills and an understanding of frontline policing and intelligence collections.

This role is based in the Auckland area. Some travel may be required.
This role is set at Team Leader/Manager level, this means your key purpose is “to lead the activities for Our Business and enable people to deliver them.”

The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is:
NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or:
- A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or
- A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, or United States of America, and has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS

Utu ā-tau | Salary
This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence at $110,425.00 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
