Fonterra has recently launched Finance Data Services (FDS) as one of four teams within Fonterra’s Data & AI (D&AI) division. The vision of FDS is that ‘Every commercial decision is augmented by Co-Op AI’ and to enable this our function has four teams spanning Enterprise Data Management, Data Product Management, Business Engagement and Analytics Engineering.

About the opportunity | Te whiwhinga mahi

Are you passionate about data analytics, finance, and leading high-performing teams? In this newly created Data and Analytics Manager role you will lead a talented team responsible for creating and managing Finance data products that drive both immediate business outcomes and long-term AI-driven strategies.
Reporting to the GM Data Services, you’ll play a key role in shaping our Finance data platform, providing stakeholders with actionable insights, and delivering innovative data solutions that empower smarter, data driven decision making across the business.

Your key accountabilities include:

  • Build and enhance our data product platform, databases, and modelling tools to meet business needs
  • Manage technical relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless data integration and support
  • Lead and develop the Data Analytics team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth
  • Create roadmaps for data infrastructure and drive the evolution of data products into advanced AI, decision modelling, and simulations
  • Oversee the pipeline of data requests and deliver analytics solutions in collaboration with Fonterra’s Data & AI teams.

You are a data-driven leader with a passion for finance and technology. With strong technical expertise and the ability to manage cross-functional relationships, you are adept at balancing long-term strategic goals with day-to-day operational demands. You thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and are committed to developing your team’s capabilities while delivering impactful data solutions.

Skills & Qualities that will help you succeed:

  • Advanced tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Statistics.
  • Hands-on expertise in SQL, with substantial working knowledge of Scala, Python and R.
  • Mandatory certifications in MS Azure Fundamentals and MS Azure Data Fundamentals; additional certifications such as Databricks Data Engineer Associate/Professional, Power BI Data Analyst Associate, and/or Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate are highly desirable.
  • Over 5 years of extensive experience in data engineering, with a proven track record of delivering advanced analytics solutions and data products on cloud platforms, preferably Azure or AWS.
  • Hands-on expertise in financial data modelling and adept with leading visualization tools such as Power BI, coupled with strong project delivery capabilities.
  • Experience with Generative AI technologies and tools such as Co-Pilot, enhancing data-driven decision-making and automation.
  • Proficiency in using Jira and Confluence for project management and collaboration.
  • Experience with CI/CD DevOps practices to streamline development and deployment processes.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring small teams, with a strong focus on building capability and passion for talent development.
