Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity

Downer NZ holds a long-term Asset Management and Facilities Management contract with the Department of Corrections and the Ministry of Justice. Downer provide enhanced and extended scope of works and implement new processes to ensure that all facilitates are well managed and maintained. We are currently seeking a Senior Site Facilities Manager to join our team at the Department of Corrections in Auckland.

A bit about the role

The Senior Site Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing a team, ensuring the timely and high-quality delivery of services to our customers, and achieving the financial objectives of the contract. Success in this role requires strong people leadership, excellent relationship management, solid commercial acumen, extensive facilities management experience, and a collaborative approach to teamwork.

The Senior Site Manager will also be accountable for maintaining a Zero Harm culture through active engagement, leading the Downer site team, fostering strong customer relationships, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and within budget. Additionally, the role involves managing subcontractors, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and upholding Downer’s values in both service delivery and people leadership.

Prisons are sometimes challenging work environments, so you must be confident and able to conduct yourself professionally at all times. You will also understand the 24/7 nature of a prison site and be prepared to sometimes manage jobs and situations after hours.

We're looking for someone who is passionate about going the extra mile! You are motivated and ready for the opportunity to take on a leadership role to achieve a high standard performance. You will also bring with you:

  • 3-5 years of management-level experience in the facilities industry.
  • Strong analytical, numeric, and fiscal skills with a focus on cost management and productivity improvement.
  • Proven commercial acumen and the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Experience in managing operational activities to ensure quality, timely completion, and minimal rework.
  • Knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and ability to ensure compliance.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team; intermediate computer literacy and a current full driver’s license.
