Odyssey House Christchurch and Purapura Whetu work in partnership to deliver prison-based alcohol and other drug treatment programmes at Christchurch Men's and Rolleston Prisons. We provide holistic health and wellbeing programmes within a multi-disciplinary team to support tangata whaiora affected by problematic alcohol and other drug (AOD) use challenges.
We are looking for a part-time AOD Practitioner to join our team at Christchurch Men's Prison although you may sometimes also be required to work at Rolleston Prison.
As an AOD Practitioner, you will join a team of clinical, peer support and cultural staff, providing a multi disciplinary approach to working with our client group.
In this role, you will be:
- Undertaking comprehensive alcohol and other drug assessments
- Delivering education and therapeutic groups within the prison
- Developing treatment plans and assessments to deliver a tailored approach to client needs
- Working alongside a multi disciplinary team of clinical, peer support and cultural staff
- Using a strengths based approach to delivering elective topics and activities
To be successful in this role, you will:
- Hold a Registration with an allied health profession such as Social Work, OT, NZAC, DAPAANZ etc
- Must be competent to undertake comprehensive AOD assessments using DSM-5 diagnostic criteria
- Have good organisational skills
- Be a team player
- A good understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and knowledge of tikanga Māori /te reo
- A non judgmental approach to working with tangata whaiora
You will be part of a dedicated team working across prison sites, and a valued member of the wider Odyssey and Purapura Whetu whanau. We provide ongoing training opportunities, and relocation support is available.
