Location: Timaru Port
Status: Start your stevedoring career at $41.20/hour on a casual basis.
Position: Casual Stevedoring General Hand [Multiple Positions available]
This role is perfect for anyone interested in starting a career in the stevedoring port industry. No matter your experience level, this job could be an excellent fit for you. As a general hand, you will receive training to work on and alongside ships, handling the loading and unloading at your local port. Additionally, for the right candidate, there will be opportunities to train on operating machinery over time.
Specific Responsibilities
No previous port experience is required, as we provide comprehensive training. This role includes (but is not limited to) slinging logs, lashing/securing project cargo, and other related tasks involving manual handling, marking logs, and operating small wharf forklifts. Some heavy lifting is involved, and we work 12-hour shifts, so candidates must be able to handle outdoor work.
Requirements:
- You need a valid NZ Drivers license.
- You need to have the right to work in New Zealand.
- You need to care about health and safety for yourself and others.
- You must be able to pass a Ministry of Justice check, ACC check, Medical and a drug and alcohol test [note, random drug and alcohol testing is compulsory].
