He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Auckland Council’s Building Consents department is seeking a motivated administrative professional to join our team on a casual basis. In this dynamic role, you will play a key part in supporting the delivery of operational excellence to communities across Tāmaki Makaurau — including those on Great Barrier Island. With your strong organisational and interpersonal skills, you’ll work closely with a dedicated team that delivers a wide range of services, including building control, community facilities, waste solutions, and parks.

Day-to-day you could expect to work on:
- Handling diverse and shifting service demands, whilst maintaining a high standard of customer service and building strong relationships with various internal and external stakeholders.
- Supporting the delivery of services across Tāmaki Makaurau, including Great Barrier Island. The range of services include but are not limited to building control services, waste solution services, cemetery services, parks, community facility services, property, financial transactions and rates services.
- Providing administrative support to the greater Building Consents department as required.
- Encouraging and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
*** This role is ideal for someone seeking a flexible weekly work schedule and who is available to work weekdays between 8am and 4pm

This role requires experience in similar support or customer service positions, with a sound understanding of operational delivery in a varied and sometimes high demand environment.
The ideal candidate will be an energetic and enthusiastic team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is adept at managing multiple responsibilities. You should be highly organised, adaptable, and dedicated to delivering exceptional customer service with a personal touch, along with a genuine passion for providing high quality service.
We will be looking for specific experience with:
- Proven experience in a customer service environment, ideally within a similar support or operational role.
- A positive and can-do attitude, willing to go the extra mile to ensure service excellence.
- Excellent relationship building and collaboration skills to work effectively with both internal teams and the community.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- A good level of knowledge of Aotea / Great Barrier Island and its unique logistics and community needs would be advantageous.
