About the role
Due to an internal secondment we have a fixed term Communications and Engagement Advisor role available at Hutt City Council! The role will oversee all communications and engagement requirements for our Neighbourhoods & Communities department, looking after projects for our Parks & Reserves, Hub & Libraries, Aquatics Services, and other important services and facilities for Hutt City Council.

You will serve as the primary point of contact, aligning strategies with project objectives and the organisation's overall communications goals.

Your role will involve creating project-related content, monitoring the effectiveness of communications efforts, and providing strategic advice to ensure best practice approaches are included in project planning.

About you
You are an experienced communications and engagement professional with a proven track record of working with projects, or in a business partner model.

You will have the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, developing strong relationships and high levels of trust. You will also have strong political acumen, a good understanding of media risks, community and engagement business strategies and be able to deliver high quality work.

Finally, we're looking for someone who appreciates a strong team culture, who enjoys their job and wants to work in an open and supportive environment.

Key skills and attributes:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Strong project management and account management skills, along with an understanding of best practice engagement approaches
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Experience in a local government or public sector environment is desirable.
