Auckland Council is Australasia’s largest local authority by population, and the 2025 elections will be for the mayor, 20 councillors and 149 local board members.

Our Elections Team has an opportunity for a fixed-term full-time Inauguration Ceremonies Lead until December 2025. You will be based in the Auckland city centre with some flexibility to work from home or a Council hub.

Reporting to the Elections Programme Manager, this role will be instrumental in planning and leading all 21 local board inaugural ceremonies. You will also support the planning and delivery of the Governing Body inauguration ceremony in conjunction with Civic Events.

You could expect to work on:
• Scope, plan and deliver the 2025 Inauguration Ceremonies workstream in accordance with legislative requirements and tikanga protocols.
• Lead engagement with Local Board Teams, Ngā Mātarae and Civic events, as well as external stakeholders and local iwi
• Identify and track milestones & deliverables
• Monitor, record and regularly report project status; mitigate risks and issues

He kōrero mōu: About you
Central to this role, you will need a high level of trust, credibility and integrity. We are looking for someone with an impeccable display of professionalism and the tact to work with senior-level staff, elected members, iwi and the public.

You will likely have experience in large, complex and potentially political organisations. Our ideal candidate will be proficient in Māori cultural competency; particularly with tikanga protocols for events held at the marae.

We are specifically looking for:
• Minimum of seven years’ relevant work experience, preferably in a local or central government environment working on complex projects or events as an advisor or project manager
• Strong understanding and appreciation of the democratic process and local government
• Understanding of te ao Māori and tikanga protocols and ability to collaborate with iwi
• Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, gained through providing advice to a range of stakeholders
