Mō te tūranga | About the Role
The Skynet squad is a team of four Platform Engineers responsible for the infrastructure and platforms used by the Westpac domestic payments systems. Currently we're focused on changing our provisioning process, moving to new hardware and putting in a new domestic payment processing platform.

This will be a 09 -month contract role, working closely with the payments team.

Please note: - This position requires participation in an afterhours on call support roster.

Ko tāu mahi | What you’ll do

  • Develop Jenkins pipelines to automate the provisioning of infrastructure and the deployment of application changes, ensuring seamless CI/CD processes.
  • Write and maintain Chef recipes to manage and automate the configuration of servers, ensuring consistency and compliance across environments.
  • Implement and maintain observability using Westpac's current practices, including logging, tracing, and metrics collection to monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues.
  • Oversee monitoring and alerting systems in line with Westpac standards, utilising tools to ensure system reliability and prompt incident response.
  • Administer and optimize Jenkins, ensuring its availability, performance, and integration with other tools in the CI/CD pipeline.
  • Actively contribute to the squad by enhancing existing systems and onboarding new payment-related systems, ensuring they meet business requirements and technical standards.
  • Provide on-call support, including after-hours, to address critical issues and ensure system uptime and reliability.
  • Maintain and manage a container orchestration platform, to ensure efficient deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications.
  • Coach and mentor other platform engineers, sharing knowledge and best practices to foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

  • Proven experience in creating, implementing, and maintaining Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Experience engineering fault-tolerant, resilient systems that are observable, monitored, and have alerting.
  • Proficiency in Linux system administration is essential.
  • Experience creating automation with a configuration management tool in either Chef, Ansible, or Puppet.
  • Experience managing and maintaining Enterprise level hardware.
  • Having experience with hyper-converged infrastructure is beneficial.
  • Understanding payment processing platforms is beneficial.
