The Role:
Chefs and cooks are the backbone of any culinary establishment, responsible for creating the dishes that delight customers and define a restaurant’s reputation. Their roles require a combination of technical skills, creativity, and a passion for food. From preparing ingredients to plating dishes, chefs and cooks play a vital role in the culinary world.
This is a full-time role in a restaurant open 7 days a week, with working hours ranging from 5:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Please note that there is a busy catering season from October to April.
The pay rate will be between $25.00 and $30.00 per hour, depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities:
● Preparing and organizing ingredients before cooking, including chopping vegetables, marinating meats, and measuring spices.
● Using various methods such as grilling, baking, frying, sautéing, and steaming to prepare dishes.
● Following recipes accurately or creating new dishes while maintaining consistency in taste and presentation.
● Leading and working alongside kitchen staff, including sous chefs, line cooks, and prep cooks.
● Monitoring stock levels, ordering supplies, and minimizing food waste.
● Ensuring that all dishes meet the restaurant’s standards for taste, presentation, and hygiene.
● Accommodating dietary restrictions or special requests from customers.
What do we need from you to be successful for this role?
● 2 years relevant work experience in one of these areas: Cookery, Culinary or Gastronomy.
● Mastery of various cooking methods, such as grilling, braising, roasting, and sous-vide.
● Prior experience in a supervisory or team-lead role is essential for managing kitchen staff.
● Ability to lead and motivate kitchen staff, including line cooks, prep cooks, and dishwashers.
● Skill in plating dishes attractively and ensuring visual appeal.
● Flexibility to handle unexpected challenges, such as last-minute menu changes or high customer demand.
● Working closely with the Executive Chef and other managers to align on goals and strategies.
● Maintaining a clean and organized kitchen while adhering to food safety regulations.
● A full driver’s license is mandatory.
