Job Description

Apopo Studios is a dynamic start-up creative hub and social enterprise in the heart of Manurewa. We are dedicated to providing world-class studios, equipment and co-working space to foster and grow a vibrant creative community of professional and aspiring photographers, videographers and designers of garments and textiles.

We are urgently seeking to contract an experienced and motivated General Manager for the 2025 calendar year to take Apopo Studios to the next level. The ideal candidate will be responsible for establishing and developing a sustainable commercial operation that supports and inspires community access and participation in our facilities, events and creative community, and ultimately impacts positively on the socioeconomic wellbeing of Manurewa and its communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement business strategies to drive growth and sustainability.
  • Operational Management: Oversee daily operations, ensuring our resources and facilities deliver sustainable commercial success.
  • Community/Industry Engagement: Foster strong relationships with local creatives, designers, schools and community groups to enhance participation and collaboration.
  • Financial Oversight: Manage budgets, financial planning and reporting to ensure financial health and sustainability.
  • Marketing and Promotion: Develop and execute marketing strategies to increase visibility and increase our membership and clients.
  • Team Management: Build, lead and inspire a team of dedicated staff and volunteers, promoting a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Event Coordination: Plan and execute events, workshops, and exhibitions that align with Apopo Studios' mission and goals.


Core Attributes:

  • Proven experience in a senior management role, preferably within the creative or social enterprise sectors.
  • Strong business acumen with a proven track record of developing and implementing successful business strategies.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Exceptional cross-cultural communication and interpersonal skills and abilities.
  • Proven experience and understanding of working with the communities of Manurewa and South Auckland.
  • Passion for our chosen creative industries and commitment to community engagement and wellbeing.
  • Financial management experience, including budgeting and financial reporting.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
