Job Description
This role is not at all like other roles in Agri, and our product is revolutionising the beef market in New Zealand. We are searching for a high-performing Senior Business Development Manager to develop, commercialise, and scale our Beef product in the North Island. This is an opportunity to positively disrupt an industry, collaborating with the sector to pioneer groundbreaking change.
You will also be leading the North Island’s growth into the Beef sector by driving sales, leading a high-performing Territory Management team, being customer-obsessed and working closely with our revenue leaders, GTM and Product teams to create and execute Go-To-Market strategies. This is an opportunity to pioneer groundbreaking change and, specifically, impact the lives of Beef farmers.
Don’t apply for this job if you are looking for an easy ride, but if you are up for a challenge, you will join a team of exceptional people, and this could be the most impactful job you ever have. It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it.
This role can be located anywhere in the North Island. Frequent travel is required as part of the position.
- Who are we looking for - these skills are essential for this role and reflect how we operate every day. We expect applicants to demonstrate evidence of these requirements in their resume, cover letter and interviews.
- Deep Expertise in Beef Farming Systems - Brings a rich, practical understanding of beef farm operations, systems, and challenges. This includes knowledge of livestock management, grazing systems, farm economics, and on-farm decision-making processes.
- Strong Sales Acumen and End-to-End Ownership - You’ll be able to demonstrate the ability to “walk the talk” by personally driving deals from start to finish. You must have a proven record of consistently delivering results.
- Strategic & Critical Thinking Capability - Possesses the ability to think from first principles to shape and challenge both the sales strategy and the beef product roadmap. This person can hold their own in discussions with revenue leaders and product teams, bringing market insights and customer feedback to the table. They should be able to identify emerging trends, anticipate challenges, and provide innovative solutions that influence our beef direction.
- Leadership with a Player-Coach Mentality - A proven leader who leads by example—willing to roll up their sleeves. You set the bar high and will push your team to do more than they thought possible by inspiring, mentoring, and empowering them.
- Change Agent and Innovation Driver - You won’t be afraid to challenge the status quo. We’re looking for someone who seeks opportunities for improvement and innovation, both within the team and across the broader business, to drive better outcomes for our customers, the product and Halter as a whole.
What your day could look like
- Own the beef product adoption in the North Island and support the overall NZ beef product strategy - Play a critical role in shaping Halter’s beef product by deeply engaging with beef farmers to uncover their needs, pain points, and opportunities to deliver greater value by sharing this with our Product team. You’ll continuously build a deep expertise in beef farming. You’ll continue to refine the go-to-market strategy for the North Island.
- Strategic Sales Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive sales strategy aligned with Halter's expansion goals. Lead and grow a high-performing sales team, providing direction, training and management to foster a culture of continuous improvement. This includes building and/or refining performance management (e.g. Performance Improvement Plans) and incentive/commission schemes for the team, working with the Revenue Operations team as required.
- Growth Initiatives: Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to optimise sales and marketing approaches to growth. Identify and implement innovative growth initiatives to enhance market penetration and accelerate sales cycles.
- Account Management: End-to-end ownership over the life cycle of Beef farms in the North Island.
- Drive customer value: Ensure farmers are extracting full value from Halter to achieve their goals and ultimately understand the impact it’s having on their farming business.
- Revenue Retention & Expansion: You will own the retention, renewals and expansion targets of Halter’s existing revenue with Beef farms in the region.
- People Management & Development: You will be responsible for a motivated, high-performing team.
