The Company

My client is a long established business within NZ with an Australian Head office and a vastly experienced management team, even headed by a Kiwi CEO. In recent times the business has acquired by an investment fund which has a strong appetite to grow and expand in the NZ market which has already been earmarked with distinct possibilities on the horizon.

The company in NZ is circa $75M and has multiple operating business units in different locations around the country. The majority of their business is export focused but there is also a strong domestic market. There are a number of staff who have been with this business for long periods of tenure which speaks volumes about the company and its culture.

The Role

The role of NZ Financial Controller will report to the Group CFO based in Melbourne. Your responsibilities will be broad and you can really own this role. Your key purpose and scope will include:

  • Be responsible for the planning, budgeting and forecasting of the 4 major NZ entities
  • Responsible for the monthly reporting pack, providing business partnering to the business unit heads and providing insights thereon and to senior Execs
  • Responsible for the integrity of the financial systems and internal control environment.
  • Responsible for the NZ Statutory reporting and external audit process and report up to Group
  • Tax compliance
  • Cashflow management, including treasury and managing the hedging book
  • Insurances
  • Management and development of the Finance team in NZ
  • Other ad hoc duties as required.


Your profile:

To be considered for this role, we are looking for a CA or equivalent qualified Financial Controller. You must have held a similar position previously and have a background that demonstrates a high level of professionalism with an understanding of corporate structures. Other key attributes will include:

  • Proven prior leadership skills having managed a finance function previously
  • Exposure to a fast moving industry, preferably in some sort of trading business
  • Strong stakeholder management capabilities – there will be multiple GM’s to business partner in this role so this will be a key element for the successful applicant
  • Experience with complex corporate structures involving multiple sites and the ability to make complex simple
  • A proven breadth of experience across all aspects of finance including technical, budgeting, forecasting, leadership and partnering
  • An ability to travel to sites from time to time to engage the business
  • A down to earth, relatable personality with strong communication skills
