About the role
Are you a data-driven problem solver with a passion for building scalable, secure and efficient data solutions? Would you like the opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping data infrastructure? An innovative fintech company based in Wellington is looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join their team.
As the Data Engineer, you will be at the heart of the company’s data ecosystem, designing, building and maintaining the infrastructure that powers our operational and analytical capabilities. Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data is collected, processed and made accessible efficiently and securely.
What you'll be doing
- Design and develop scalable data pipelines to support business operations and analytics.
- Maintain and enhance the data warehouse/lakehouse environment.
- Integrate data from multiple sources, ensuring reliability and consistency.
- Implement and uphold best practices for data governance and security in a fast-paced fintech environment.
- Work closely with stakeholders to optimise data-driven decision-making.
About you
You have proven experience in data engineering, ideally within a fintech or a fast-paced industry, with expertise in designing and maintaining scalable data pipelines. Your strong knowledge of data integration, governance and security best practices enables you to build reliable and efficient data solutions. You are proficient in modern data technologies such as cloud platforms, SQL, Python, and Spark, and you bring a problem-solving mindset with a passion for innovation and efficiency.
Key skills and experience
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 3+ years experience in data engineering, with a focus on building and maintaining data pipelines in a modern cloud environment (GCP experience is highly preferable).
- Experience (or demonstrable understanding) of data handling in a highly regulated environment.
- Experience in the fintech or financial services industry is desirable.
- Cloud proficiency (GCP preferred) and data warehousing expertise (Lakehouse Focus).
- Experience working with both relational and NoSQL databases.
- Experience with real-time data ingestion and processing.
- Experience with data modelling and workflow orchestration tools.
- Understanding of data governance principles and data quality management.
- Scripting and programming experience.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automation.
- Strong communication, both written and verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think on your feet.
