Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
Due to an internal promotion, we are looking for a Ministerial Adviser to join our supportive, and collaborative team within MPI's Government Services directorate in the Public Affairs business unit.
This role is the heart of our Government Services directorate, providing high quality, impartial advice, and support across both MPI and our Ministers' offices. This team delivers ministerial correspondence and advice, ministerial responses, answers to written and oral parliamentary questions, event briefings for ministerial visits, and engagements with select committees, while upholding MPI's processes and procedures in accordance with DPMC guidelines.
Due to the reactive nature of this role, you will be required to assist and service our Ministers from our Wellington office, five days per week.
In this role, you will:
- Manage and foster essential relationships at all levels across the Ministry.
- Control competing priorities across many ministerial and stakeholder requests, while ensuring compliance with MPI's policies and standards.
- Facilitate and advise on correspondence to the Minister's office, staying accountable for deadlines and the quality of advice.
- Assess trends and issues and engage with others to seek solutions to continually improve the performance of the Ministry.
Mōu - About You
We are looking for someone with an interest in the Primary Industries and the machinery of government, and value those with a commitment to develop, and have a passion to advance their career within Government.
We welcome applications from a range of experience, as this team encourages diversity in thinking and welcome those who may bring different ways of working. You may already be involved in ministerial or parliamentary processes with an interest in the primary industries and looking to develop your customer/stakeholder relationship skills to contribute to our dynamic, high performing team.
- Understanding of the machinery of government and ministerial processes, with sound political nous and judgement;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an eye for accuracy, detail and quality;
- Ability to identify and effectively mitigate risks;
- Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to work at all levels of an organisation and be comfortable in advising senior leadership; and an ability to self-manage your time and remain calm, flexible, and focused to deliver to tight timeframes as needed.
- Ability to react quickly and thrive in rapidly changing environments as the Ministerials team frequently manage sudden surges in volume, such as if a biosecurity incursion occurs.
Desirable:
Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience
