Job Description
We have a vacancy for a qualified pharmacy technician to join our pharmacy team at MercyAscot hospitals. Initially for a fixed term to cover parental leave there is the possibility of this role becoming permanent when our impressive new wing at Mercy Hospital in Epsom opens later this year.
We will consider applications from candidates wanting full-time or part-time hours and who are available to do an additional rostered half-day Saturday shift working approximately 1 out of 6 weekends.
Mercy Pharmacy is a unique workplace where our pharmacy department runs a hybrid model - serving both as a hospital pharmacy (provision of medications for inpatient use during a patient's hospital stay, dispensing of discharge prescriptions), as well as also being a registered community pharmacy (we provide community pharmacy services including dispensing prescriptions, blister packs, OTC and pharmacist-only consultations for patients, etc).
This position will suit a pharmacy technician with a "can-do" attitude who thrives on delivering high-quality care to our patients, hospital staff and customers. Along with being a fantastic team player with excellent communication skills, your efficiency, positivity and desire to make a difference in providing quality patient care will see you succeed in this fast-paced and varied role. Hospital experience is not essential; we welcome community pharmacy technicians who would be interested in gaining hospital experience to apply for this role.
Main duties will include:
- Dispensing and supply of medications for patients at MercyAscot hospitals and community pharmacy prescriptions
- Providing over-the-counter advice to customers on non-prescription medicines, and providing patient counselling for medications (under the supervision of a pharmacist)
- Provide an effective and efficient imprest service to allocated wards and theatres
- Assist with queries from hospital staff (prescribers, nurses, etc) with regards to medications and escalate to the dispensary/clinical pharmacist for further advice where appropriate
- Supporting the charge dispensary manager and inventory/procurement staff to ensure good stock control of medications, and assisting with stock management
- Participate in pharmacy/medication-related audits and quality monitoring activities where required
Our Ideal candidate will have:
- NZQA National Certificate in Pharmacy (Technician) level 5 or equivalent accepted by the Pharmaceutical Society of NZ
- Community pharmacy experience - competency using RxONE dispensing software is an advantage
- Hospital/ clinical pharmacy experience is an advantage (but not essential)
- Commitment to quality, accuracy and safety in their work
- Clear, concise communication and professional but friendly interpersonal skills
At MercyAscot we highly value our employees and are proud to offer very competitive remuneration, smart easy‑care uniforms, and a hospital wide Christmas & New Year close-down. MercyAscot employees also have access to a wide range of benefits including free parking, a robust Employee Assistance Programme, staff discounts on services, and discounts on retail, banking, childcare, e-bikes, and gym memberships.
If this sounds like you please APPLY NOW. If you would like to find out more about the role, please contact Beth Mudd (Charge Dispensary Manager) at Bethany.Mudd@mercyascot.co.nz
Applications will close on 3 March 2025 - although we reserve the right to close applications earlier.
Only candidates currently residing and eligible to work permanently in New Zealand will be considered for this role.
