Mō te tūnga | About the role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Advisor, Research Insights to join our Evidence Based Policing (EBP) Team. In this role you will help New Zealand Police keep Our People and communities safe by enabling the use of an evidence-based approach to our operations. You will work collaboratively with other teams both across the EBP, and the organisation to develop real-world, practical research projects and best-practice advice.

EBP contributes robust quantitative and qualitative research evidence that informs Police choices and provides confidence that what we as Police do works. We use a range of methods including crime-science and problem-solving methods, as well as drawing from behavioural and social sciences theory and research. The ideal candidate will be a go-getter with proven project management and research experience and an excellent track-record building and managing internal and external relationships. You will be comfortable working on long-duration robust research initiatives as well as adept at providing rapid evidence reviews and insights to support during times of urgency. You will be a keen mentor of developing researchers, and other staff looking to upskill in research methods.

Leadership and high quality, timely provision of advice on research work across NZ Police.
Robust and insightful contribution to a research-informed evidence base across a number of topics of interest and priorities to NZ Police.
Collaborative working with colleagues across EBP and NZ Police, enhancing the mana and waiora of others.
Contributing to a high-performing team and continuous improvement.

Whilst we are looking for skills, knowledge and experience relevant to the role, we also place high importance on your state of mind, the alignment of your values with ours, your ability to contribute to and build high performing teams, and the way that you lead yourself or others.

Understanding of Māori customs and values (Whanaungatanga, Rangatiratanga, Manaakitanga, Wairuatanga and Kaitiakitanga) and Kaupapa Māori research principles would be advantageous.
Postgraduate Research Qualification or equivalent work experience.
Strong project management and coordination skills.
Experience designing and conducting quantitative and qualitative research projects.
Good written and verbal communication and well-practiced at simplifying or tailoring complex information to the needs of each audience.

Utu ā-tau | Salary
This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $110,425 and $117,014 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
