Join our high-performing Healthy Waters & Flood Resilience (HW&FR) department sitting in our Stormwater Quality team as a Senior Healthy Waters Specialist and play a pivotal role in addressing water quality issues across the Auckland Region.

You will be responsible for understanding the scale of these issues and identifying opportunities for significant improvements. Your expertise will be crucial in providing expert evidence, advice, and technical input into policy, strategy, planning, regulatory, and infrastructure decisions made by Auckland Council and other key stakeholders.

This is your chance to make a lasting impact on the management of stormwater quality and its effects on our coastal and freshwater environments.

Some key responsibilities will include:

  • Co-lead the development and improvement of scientific methods and tools to understand and predict stormwater quality impacts and evaluate management strategies.
  • Support and promote continuous improvement initiatives within the team.
  • Oversee water quality data management and generate intelligence on recreational water quality issues.
  • Co-lead the documentation, publication, and peer review of scientific methodologies and findings.
  • Provide expert advice and technical input into policy, strategy, planning, regulatory, and infrastructure decisions related to stormwater quality management.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You are highly proficient in Water Quality Science and modelling, with a proven track record of innovation and effective leadership in project and programme management.

Your excellent customer rapport and communication skills, combined with your interpersonal abilities, make you a valuable team player. You excel at engaging with teams with the HW&FR department and across the organisation, demonstrating adaptability to manage change and work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Your expertise extends to research and scientific report writing, as well as systems integration and interoperability. Overall, you bring a strong blend of technical knowledge, leadership, and collaborative skills to the table.

We will be looking for specific experience with:

  • Minimum- MSc. in Water Quality/Limnology/Environmental Geochemistry or science OR Hydrological Sciences and/or Modelling.
  • 7+ years relevant work experience in water quality (Freshwater/Coastal) modelling 4 of which must be in the stormwater industry or research
