Mō te tūnga | About the role
Oranga Tamariki Residences are transforming to support and deliver better outcomes for tamariki, rangatahi, whanau and communities. We are seeking a proactive, driven, and experienced leader from a strong operational background to join us as the Residence Manager for our Epuni site in Lower Hutt.
As a Residence Manager, you will have demonstrated experience leading large teams in complex operational and compliance driven environments and will be a unifying, consistent presence for our tamariki and teams. You will quickly build relationships with your direct reports and your peers to develop a solid understanding of our current landscape and the nuances of our work. This understanding will be critical in supporting you to effectively identify the key areas on site that must be addressed to deliver improvement to the way we work and operate.
We want to call it out upfront - this role will be challenging. Residences are dynamic and, at times, high-risk environments. This role has operational responsibility for all staff on site, as well rangatahi and tamariki in our care - you are the most senior leader based at Epuni and our operations run 24/7. As part of our transformation, we are making significant changes to our operating processes and embedding procedures and policies that prioritise keeping our kaimahi safe and offering them the development they need to succeed. Our Residence Managers - as the bridge between our executive teams and our frontline kaimahi- will play a critical, hands-on role in driving and delivering this change.
As part of your role, you will proactively partner with both social workers and iwi and Māori organisations to consider and develop strategies that address the underlying factors that contribute to offending as early as possible. Our teams are committed this important work to ensure tamariki get their lives back on track and ensuring that the time they spend in our residences will improve their prospects for the future.

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring
You will have previous experience leading in a people centric operational environment. You will be able to demonstrate strong experience leading through high-risk operations as well as a proven ability to build high performance teams. Your judgement, decision making and ability to identify risk and problem solve will be tried and tested in complex environments. Your leadership style is known for its focus on effective prevention of risk - we are striving to build a proactive and aspirational service mindset as we deliver for both rangatahi and kaimahi.
