Job Description

Senior Associate to Special Counsel (Insurance Law) – Auckland Office Position: Senior Associate to Special Counsel Location: Auckland, New Zealand Experience Level: 8+ years PQE (Post-Qualified Experience) A top-tier international law firm with a prominent presence in insurance law is seeking a seasoned Senior Associate or Special Counsel to join its Auckland office. We are looking for a highly experienced lawyer to bring their expertise in insurance and reinsurance law, regulatory matters, and complex litigation to our dynamic, globally integrated team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic advice on a range of insurance matters, including claims management, policy interpretation, and coverage disputes.
  • Represent major insurance companies in high-stakes mediations and arbitration, including complex liability and multi-jurisdictional cases.
  • Act as a thought leader in insurance law, contributing to firm-wide knowledge and driving best practices.
  • Mentor and support junior team members, fostering growth within the team and ensuring the delivery of exceptional client service.
  • Build and nurture strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor to clients and enhancing the firm’s reputation in the market.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • 8+ years PQE with a focus on insurance law, gained in a reputable law firm.
  • Proven experience in managing complex cases from inception to resolution, including litigation, arbitration.
  • Strong understanding of New Zealand insurance regulations and the ability to advise on compliance and regulatory issues.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with an aptitude for building client trust and confidence.
  • Experience working within international law firms or cross-border environments is advantageous.
