Job Description
Join our dynamic Wellington ITS team at Downer and be at the forefront of transforming the city's transport landscape! As part of our team, you'll collaborate with the Wellington City Council on exciting projects that enhance mobility and safety for all residents. All our ITS positions are Full-Time and Permanent Opportunities with 40 hours guaranteed. We are currently hiring for several key positions within our Intelligent Transport Systems division:

  • Line Mechanics: You will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of essential transport infrastructure. Your expertise will ensure our systems operate smoothly and efficiently.
  • Electricians: As an electrician, you'll play a vital role in powering our intelligent transport systems. You'll work on installation and maintenance tasks, ensuring all electrical systems meet safety standards.
  • Supervisors: We are looking for experienced supervisors to lead our teams in delivering high-quality projects. You will manage resources, schedules, and ensure adherence to safety regulations while fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Street Light Supervisor: In this role, you will oversee the installation and maintenance of street lighting, ensuring safe and well-lit roadways for the community. Your leadership will be key in improving public safety and visibility.
  • Traffic Signals Supervisors: You will manage the operation and enhancement of traffic signals to optimize traffic flow and safety. Your insights will help us create more efficient transport solutions for Wellington.


Important Skills | Nga pūkenga matua

  • Must be a New Zealand registered Electrician and have a current Electricians practising license with the EWRB. If you are applying for our Line Mechanics role, you must be New Zealand registered Line Mechanic or have Street light Level Standard.
  • Previous experience as an electrician, line mechanic or supervisor; preferably with a focus on ITS or similar systems is highly desirable.
  • A valid full class 1 driver’s license is required.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in electrical work. Commitment to maintaining a zero-harm work environment.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and communicate clearly with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, control systems, and technology integration as well as solid computer skills and exposure to a wide variety of computer application.
  • Willingness to work in various conditions and adapt to changing project requirements as there is an occasional requirement to travel and stay away from home.
