We have an exciting opportunity for a Section Engineer (Mechanical) to join our Golden Bay Cement, Portland team based in Whangarei.

What will you do?

The section engineer is responsible for all aspects of maintenance in their designated area. Ensure that all planned maintenance and reactive maintenance is completely with minimum disruption to production.

You will also monitor and work in conjunction with the Shift Fitters to analyse trends and faults and initiate action plans.

Your responsibilities include

  • Comply with all Health and Safety requirements.
  • Work with process engineers and production staff to ensure optimum operation of plant.
  • Provide effective and good quality training and guidance to apprentices.
  • Liaise with stores regarding spare parts, procurement and stock levels.
  • Participate in call out roster.
  • Maintain good maintenance records and log quality work order history in the CMMS.
  • Support effective management and performance reviews of contractors.
  • Monitoring of plant availability and uptime.
  • Coordinate contractors to undertake maintenance within designated areas.


You have experience in:

  • Mechanical maintenance experience operating in a large, complex manufacturing environment.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification: Trade in Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance and Condition, or Fitting and Tuning (NQF Level 4)
  • Maintenance Systems
  • Drawings interpretation
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Basic equipment and machinery (i.e. pumps, etc.)
  • Welding techniques
