Job Description

Kia mahi ngātahi mō Pōneke mō tōna āpōpō | Working together for Wellington's future.

As a great harbour capital city, Wellington City Council has established a vision for Wellington as 'an inclusive, sustainable and creative capital for people to live, work and play'. The future of Wellington is compact, inclusive & connected, greener, resilient, vibrant and prosperous.

Berhampore Nursery is an award-winning nursery, producing 100,000 eco-sourced native plants annually for the restoration of the city's parks and reserve areas. The Nursery plays a vital role in supporting Wellington City Council's programmes in revegetation, habitat restoration, urban horticulture and the conservation of Wellington-specific threatened plant species.

We are looking for an individual with great administration skills to support and manage all aspects of plant purchasing, procurement and documentation for the Nursery. This will include ordering plants not available in the Nursery, maintaining and documenting stock movements and preparing and distributing purchase orders and invoicing. Additionally, you will manage our commemorative tree scheme and play a key role in organising and administrating the WCC Road Reserve plant scheme.

So, what do we need from you to ensure success in the role?

  • A customer centric approach and a genuine commitment to providing a quality service to all customers. One of our four values here at Council is He tangata, he tangata, he tangata - we put people at the heart of what we do.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and other business units within the Council.
  • Prior experience within a horticultural role or similar
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong computer literacy, particularly in MS Word and Excel and experience in database management.
  • Experience or a strong interest in horticulture.
  • Ability to work well autonomously as well as part of a small team.
  • Current NZ class 1 Drivers Licence

What can we offer you in return?

  • A friendly working environment with plenty of parking.
  • Good remuneration and benefits.
  • Access to great learning opportunities, including training in Amenity Horticulture and Nursery Production.

Because this is a safety sensitive role, the successful applicant will undergo pre-employment health assessments and drug and alcohol screening, in addition to police vetting.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week), between the hours of 7.30am to 4.00pm, Monday to Friday, weekend hours and overtime as required.

Please contact Jeff Paris on 021 227 8217 or jeff.paris@wcc.govt.nz for more information.

Nōu te rourou | What's in it for you
