Mō te tūnga | About the role
The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) is a key part of the detection, prevention and investigation of a range of offences in New Zealand and overseas. We receive a large amount of information from the private sector pursuant to the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009 (AMLCFT Act) that provides leads and is used to support investigations.

We are looking for a Manager to lead our Training, Liaison and Compliance team. In this role you will support the FIU in anti-money laundering efforts including the investigation of organised and transnational criminal groups and the disruption of terrorist financing. This includes leading a busy Wellington team responsible for supporting reporting entities and ensuring high quality and consistent reporting is maintained. This is achieved through having an understanding of the application of the AMLCFT Act, building relationships and working with stakeholders across the AML sector. Improving processes and managing change will be important as significant AML reform is set to occur over the next two years.

Key Accountabilities:

  • An ability to lead with empathy and a strong focus on the welfare and development of your staff in accordance with Our Values
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in building positive and productive working relationships internally and externally.
  • Exercise sound judgement managing the allocation of workloads and staffing.
  • Background in the financial sector is desirable but not essential.
