Marine and Industrial Rebuilds are a well-established growing company based in Whangarei who specialise within Marine & Industrial sectors offering Mechanical, Engineering & Refit / Installation services plus the supply of new parts. We are the Northland dealer for AB Equipment - Marine & Industrial Power representing Hyundai Infracore, FPT, D-I and Zenith.

Our teams are workshop & field service-based individuals who all take pride in their work & are committed as one team to delivering a professional and efficient service offering to all our clients.

Due to ongoing projects and business growth, we are currently looking for an additional Heavy Diesel Mechanic / Mechanical Engineer to join our skilled team.

About the role

This is a varied role that can change quite quickly from day to day mainly field service including and not limited to:

  • Performing routine maintenance tasks & servicing, conducting inspections, diagnostic tests, and repairs on diesel engines, generators, and other equipment
  • Troubleshooting and identifying mechanical and electrical problems, including fuel system issues, cooling system problems, and hydraulic system malfunctions
  • Replacing and repairing damaged or worn engine components, installing new equipment or making modifications to existing systems to improve performance or efficiency
  • Assist with new engine installation and engine rebuilds.
  • Providing on-site technical support to customers, including troubleshooting and answering questions about engine performance and maintenance
  • Maintaining accurate records of all work performed and parts used
  • Working with other technicians or mechanics as part of a team to complete larger projects or repairs


About you

You will need to be a highly motivated, energetic, quick-thinking individual with relevant qualifications and an excellent ability to communicate. Previous experience in the Marine industry is desirable.

You'll also need to demonstrate:

  • Experience as a Heavy Diesel Mechanic / Mechanical Engineer
  • Technical knowledge of diesel engines and related systems
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks effectively
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with customers and other team members
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions and to travel to remote locations
  • Availability to work Monday - Friday, 7am - 4pm


Marine knowledge including working on propulsion systems including bow thrusters, install / removal of rudders, props & shafts, completing shaft alignments etc would be a strong advantage. A health and safety certification is also desirable but not essential.
