About the Team
Our Utilities business works with our customers across Australia and New Zealand to provide the essential services that connect people and communities. We provide a range of end-to-end services and solutions for the utilities sector, encompassing power and gas networks, water and wastewater, telecommunications, metering services, and power, transmission and renewable construction. With extensive in-house capabilities, we offer fully integrated design and construction expertise across the whole asset lifecycle, as well as network operations and asset maintenance.
Job Description
Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity
Downer is an industry leader in water, providing water services to a quarter of New Zealanders. We support our customers across the full asset lifecycle from the conceptual development of a project through design, construction, commissioning and whole-of-life support and optimisation.
This role entails working as part of a dedicated maintenance crew delivering the most efficient and quality-driven service to our clients. Key duties include routine and planned preventative maintenance on wastewater treatment & reticulation assets such as air valves, pressure mains, pump stations and treatment plants, as well as responding to urgent callouts throughout the wider Tasman district.
Each day will be different doing things such as; checking pumps, pressure, tank levels, cleaning filters, repairs and checking disposal field timers & electronics.

To be successful in this role, you need a can-do attitude, be adaptable and flexible in your work approach, pay attention to detail, and have a strong customer service focus
- A full Class 1 driver’s license and Class 2 & RTW would be an advantage
- Underground services (water or drainage) maintenance experience
- Qualification and/or experience in the operation and maintenance of wastewater networks
- Confined spaces and hazard awareness training ideally
- Strong communication skills
- Self-motivated, energetic, proactive and results-orientated
