Job Description
Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
As Principal Information Security Adviser, you will support a range of projects across our Digital Investment Plan. This is a fixed-term position until end June 2025.
You will be a highly experienced security professional with the confidence to hit the ground running and provide secure by design advisory, risk, and assurance services. You will support various projects at an enterprise level with pragmatic and robust security certification and accreditation services.
The key accountabilities of this position include:
- Reviewing system designs incorporating a range of technologies including cloud services
- Identifying key security risks and advising of pragmatic controls to manage these risks
- Advising, conducting, and documenting ICT security risk assessments
- Assessing and documenting systems compliance and effectiveness of managing risks during implementations
- Scoping and interpreting security reports to provide advice on remediation actions required
- Ensuring that Project Managers, System, and Business Owners understand what risks their systems pose and how they can be managed & mitigated
- Working with various teams to obtain certification and accreditation of systems by supporting them with information, analysis, and advice
- Advising on any changes to risk or threat profiles and making recommendations on remedial activities to manage any changes
Mōu - About You
To be successful in this role, you will have substantial and demonstrable experience in information security audit processes, including working with other Government ministries / departments members of the New Zealand security community, as well as general IT risk analysis and information management.
Your knowledge and experience will span national and international information security standards such as ISO/IEA 2700x, NZISM, and NZ PSR.
In addition to your proven analytical skills and ability to identify risks and issues, you will also need strong communication, presentation abilities as you work to building collaborative working relationships across a wide range of stakeholders.

The Information Security team sits within the wider Security and Privacy directorate under the Chief Security Officer. The InfoSec team provides information security assurance and advisory across the entirety of the organisation and our suppliers. Low level Security Clearance
most preferably a New Zealand citizen, who has resided continuously in New Zealand for at least the last five (5) years, OR
is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five (5) years: either Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.
