Downer Transport & Infrastructure business is seeking a Logistics Lead for our Auckland Paving team, focused on managing operations within the paving department. This pivotal role involves overseeing logistics, transport, and delivery processes, with a core focus on resource optimization, financial performance, and achieving operational goals.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning & Tendering: Help prepare project plans and budgets, assist with estimates and tenders, and work with managers to ensure resources and timelines are optimized.
  • Resource & Outcome Management: Oversee truck bookings, manage plant resources, and ensure projects stay on track with budgets and timelines.
  • People Management: Lead, coach, and develop your team, set clear goals, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Client & Stakeholder Management: Build strong relationships with clients, internal teams, and suppliers, ensuring smooth project delivery and quick resolution of issues.
  • Safety & Compliance: Lead safety efforts, ensuring all projects meet Zero Harm, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Financial & Risk Management: Manage budgets, track project performance, submit claims and invoices, and ensure all contracts and compliance requirements are met.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need a combination of leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to drive operational success. We’re looking for someone who brings a wealth of experience in project management, is financially savvy, and has a strong commitment to safety and quality. Ideally, you’ll possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • Leadership Experience: Strong background in managing staff, plant, and quality processes, with a proven track record of responsibility and accountability.
  • Project Management Expertise: Over 5 years of relevant experience in project management or engineering, with a focus on meeting deadlines and driving results.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, able to liaise effectively with internal teams, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Innovative Thinking: Ability to think creatively, improve services, and drive mutual benefits for all stakeholders.
  • Financial Acumen: Solid understanding of financial processes, including budget management, progress reports, and interpreting P&L statements.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Experience in maintaining and complying with Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental policies, with a focus on minimizing rework and ensuring project quality.
